On this tour, you will walk around the island and experience not only art but also the versatile nature of Vallisaari. The highlight of the tour is a visit to the island’s most impressive attraction, Alexander Battery, with an observation deck offering a spectacular view of the Helsinki outer archipelago.

On this guided tour, you will hear the most interesting stories behind the artworks near the piers of arrival and departure. The tour is well suited for groups who want to focus on a smaller selection of artworks and walk a shorter tour of the island.

Guided tours are organised during Helsinki Biennial’s opening hours 8.6.–21.9.2025, Tues-Sun from 11 am to 6 pm.

Group size
The maximum group size for a guided tour is 25 people. If your group is bigger, we can book you several tours according to availability. When visiting with a group of more than 25 people, please book your tour by email.
Paying
Payment by invoice. The invoice will be sent to the provided invoicing address after your visit.
Cancellations
Cancel your booking 7 days before the scheduled date at the latest. A cancellation fee will be charged for any reservations that are cancelled later than this or that are not cancelled.
Arrival to Vallisaari Island
The guided tour starts from the Vallisaari entry pier. There is a regular ferry service to Vallisaari operated by FRS Finland. The ferry service leaves from Keisarinluodonlaituri at the Helsinki Market Square.
Please note that the ferry ticket is not included in the price of a guided tour. Tickets for the regular ferry service can be bought online or by booking a private transport for your group to the island.

There are several cafés and restaurants on Vallisaari Island that can organize an unforgettable experience with delicious cuisine for your group.
Weather and island conditions
Guided tours are mainly outdoors by the sea, so we recommend wearing comfortable shoes and appropriate clothing for the weather. You can also bring a water bottle of your own. There are water points and toilets on the island.
Accessibility – Moving around the island
Please note that the terrain is rough and hilly in places. Uneven paved stretches cannot be avoided. The biennial’s route has no outdoor stairs, but there are stairs at the entrances and indoors. Vallisaari has accessible toilets.
