Helsinki Biennial invites visual arts professionals to the Helsinki Biennial Preview Programme June 6–8 in summery Helsinki.
This unique weekend brings together international visual arts professionals, curators, and experts, offering an opportunity to experience art amidst the vibrant atmosphere of Helsinki and the beauty of the Finnish archipelago.
The professional programme includes a diverse range of exhibitions, discussions, and events, delving into the themes of the biennial through guided tours and meetings with artists and curators. The event is also a great opportunity to network, exchange ideas, and gain inspiration from new artistic approaches. The programme brings together Helsinki’s art institutions, such as museums and galleries, offering visitors a comprehensive overview of the city’s artistic scene.
The third edition of Helsinki Biennial will showcase the work of 37 artists and artist groups across three distinct venues this summer: Vallisaari Island, Esplanade Park, and HAM Helsinki Art Museum. So far, a preview list of the first eleven participating artists has been announced. Taking Shelter as its theme, this major art event brings a summer-long celebration of art to the Finnish capital from June 8 to September 21, 2025.
Curated by Blanca de la Torre and Kati Kivinen, Helsinki Biennial 2025, Shelter: Below and beyond, becoming and belonging, explores the fragile relationship between humanity and the natural world. Moving beyond human-centric perspectives, the curators foreground plants, animals, fungi, minerals, and many other agencies beyond the human. They believe this shift in perspective can foster new empathy for other living beings as a way to path ecosocial transition. A further curatorial touchpoint is the exploration of alternative ways of gathering and imparting knowledge about the world.
The Preview Programme is organized in collaboration with Frame Contemporary Art Finland and Helsinki’s art institutions.
The accreditation starts at the beginning of March.
