Erkki Pirtola (1950–2016) was a versatile figure in the Finnish art scene, known also as a critic and writer.
He was a tireless documentarian of Finland’s underground and outsider art scenes. Over the course of his career, Pirtola’s artistic practice ranged from painting and installation to performance and video. In his own words, however, drawing was the form of expression he had most fully mastered.
